C. H. Dodd in the New English Bible translation of the New Testament, describes it this way:

“No one who has not tried it can know how an impossible an art translation is. Only those who have meditated long upon the Greek original are aware of the richness and subtlety of meaning that may lie even within the most apparently simple sentence, or know the despair that attends all efforts to bring it out through the medium of a different language.”

Een van de belangrijkste redenen waarom ik werd katholiek. Ze verzamelde de bijbel, had al het begin van de artsen van de Kerk. Als iemand begrijpt de Bijbel is het de katholieken. Vrede en God Bless.

Yeah, the Hebrew word in reference to Mary is almah. Almah does not mean virgin, but young woman.

Honestly, having only a more-than-cursory glance at Hebrew and Greek, I have to say that the translating process is likely very difficult- Ideas were different, figures of speech are different, and the languages aren’t nearly as rigid as the modern creations. Hell, one word can mean contradictory things at times, depending on context of words surrounding it.

EDIT: Kelly, Homer’s works have the same problem.

I' m met C.H. Dodd op dit! Hier is één Christen die de schuld van dankbaarheid erkent die wij aan al die geleerden geweest die de oude manuscripten in het Engels hebben vertaald zodat wij kunnen beginnen het Woord van God te begrijpen.

U moet slechts een vraag stellen over John 1:1 – 2 om te realiseren wat een mijnenveldvertaling is!

Heel weinig. Het duurt zeker een speciaal type persoon. Ik doe niet veel vertalen, maar dat komt omdat ik weet precies de betrokken nuances. Ik heb een paar rookie pogingen, en ik volg de blogs van mensen die het doen. Je moet de taal goed kennen, en om het te leren moet je buiten de Bijbel te gaan. Ik denk dat de meeste mensen geloven het is net als een nieuwe taal leren …

The nuances of ones own language as someone who has tried it is not just matter of ones own language being translated.
